The Wrist & Forearm Reset

Hours of typing and mousing keep your wrists in the same narrow range of motion all day, and forearm tension quietly builds until it turns into aching or stiffness. This routine reverses that with simple counter-stretches you can do at your desk in under five minutes.

The Wrist & Forearm Reset

The Workout

1

Wrist Flexor Stretch

60 sec

Extend one arm forward, palm up, and gently pull your fingers back with your other hand, holding 30 seconds per side. Typing keeps your wrist flexors in a shortened, active position for hours; this is the direct opposite stretch, releasing the tension before it turns into stiffness.

2

Wrist Extensor Stretch

60 sec

Extend one arm forward, palm down, and gently press your fingers down and back, holding 30 seconds per side. This targets the top of the forearm, which quietly overworks every time you lift your fingers off the keyboard or click a mouse.

3

Prayer Stretch

45 sec

Press your palms together at chest height with fingers pointing up, then slowly lower your hands toward your waist while keeping your palms together until you feel a stretch through both wrists. This restores a range of motion typing never uses.

4

Fist to Fan

45 sec

Make a tight fist, then spread your fingers as wide as you can, repeating slowly for the full 45 seconds. This pumps blood back into your hands and forearms after being locked in the same typing position, clearing low-grade tightness before it builds up.

5

Forearm Massage

60 sec

Using your opposite hand, press and knead along the top and underside of your forearm from wrist to elbow, 30 seconds per side. This works out tension directly instead of just stretching around it, similar to foam rolling a bigger muscle.

6

Shoulder Roll and Shake Out

30 sec

Roll your shoulders backward a few times, then shake out your hands and wrists loosely. This releases tension that traveled up from your wrists into your shoulders over the course of typing, and signals your arms that the reset is done.
