The Mood Boost

Exercise doesn’t just change your body — it changes your brain chemistry. Movement releases endorphins, lowers cortisol, and is backed by real evidence for improving mild anxiety and low mood, not just physical fitness. This routine is built around movements that shift your mood fast, so you don’t need an hour at the gym to feel the difference.

The Workout

1

Jumping Jacks

60 sec

Get your heart rate up right away. Jump your feet out while raising your arms overhead, then back to start — steady and controlled, not rushed. Cardiovascular movement like this is the fastest way to trigger endorphin release, the same mechanism behind a runner’s high, and even 60 seconds is enough to measurably shift your mood.

2

Bodyweight Squats

60 sec

Feet shoulder-width apart, lower your hips back and down like sitting into a chair, then stand back up. Keep a steady pace throughout. Squats engage your largest muscle groups, which increases blood flow to the brain and helps clear the mental fog that builds up from hours of sitting still.

3

Desk Push-Ups

45 sec

Hands on the edge of your desk, step back to a slight angle, lower your chest toward the desk and push back up. Strength-based movement like this lowers cortisol, your body’s main stress hormone — let it double as a physical release for whatever tension you’re carrying from the day.

4

Standing Forward Fold

60 sec

Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees soft, and slowly let your upper body hang loose toward the floor. Let your head and arms go heavy. Gentle inversions like this calm your nervous system and are commonly used to ease anxiety symptoms, while bringing your heart rate back down.

5

Notice How You Feel

30 sec

Before you sit back down, pause for 30 seconds and notice the difference in how you feel compared to when you started. This isn’t just a nice idea — consciously registering the mood shift makes you more likely to actually do this again tomorrow.
